Uganda has presented a very solid team for the 2024 World Cross Country Championship set for this weekend in Belgrade, Serbia.

The team of 27 athletes has seniors (Men and Women) as well as juniors (Men and Women).

World champions Joshua Cheptegei (2019 champion) and Jacob Kiplimo (defending champion) lead the cast of senior men athletes that also has Dan Kibet, Hosea Kiplangat, Martin Kiprotich Magengo and Leonard Chemutai.

The athletes on the senior women team include; Racheal Zena Chebet, Joy Cheptoyek, Loice Chekwemoi, Sarah Chelangat, Annet Chelangat Chemengich and Belinda Chemutai.

Juniors

Dolphine Chelimo, Hosea Chemutai, Silas Rotich, Herbert Kibet, Titus Musau and Simba Samuel Cherop are the male juniors.

The junior women’s team has Keziah Chebet, Nowell Cheruto, Isella Chebet, Vicky Chekwemoi and Charity Cherop.

Knight Aciru and Linda Chebet will compete in the 2KM women category whilst Hosea Kiprop and Sam Kiprotich Kapkureny shall take part in the 2 KM men cluster.

Athletes will compete over 10 KM (Seniors), 8 KM (Juniors – Men), 6 KM (Juniors – Momen), 4X2 KM for the mixed relay.

The 2024 World Athletics Cross Country Championships will take place in the Park of Friendship in the Serbian city of Belgrade, next to the Danube.

Originally it was planned to be held in Medulin and Pula, Croatia, on 10 and 11 February 2024 but due to lack of preparations, on the 15th of September 2023 it was announced by World Athletics that the event is to be moved to an undisclosed new venue.

On 27 September 2023, World Athletics awarded Belgrade, Serbia the hosting duties.

Team Uganda was officially flagged off on Wednesday, 27th March 2024 at the National Council of Sports (NCS).
