KAMPALA, Uganda — Uganda and Denmark have signed a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to modernize Uganda’s National Statistical System, improve economic analysis, and generate critical data for climate action.

Modernizing Data for Development
The partnership aims to enhance UBOS’s capacity to produce reliable, timely, and internationally standard statistical information for government institutions, businesses, and civil society.
Key areas of cooperation include: Upgrading the National Statistical System and improving institutional coordination, Green Transition Analytics entailing producing and managing specialized data to support Uganda’s climate policies, Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), and the National Climate Change Act of 2021, Partnering with the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development to integrate official statistics into economic and fiscal forecasting, Supporting Uganda’s participation and co-chair role in the Coalition of Finance Ministers for Climate Action, Facilitating technical assistance, staff exchanges, and knowledge-sharing through the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Strategic Sector Cooperation Programme among others.
Implementation and Frameworks:
Under the arrangement, the Embassy of Denmark will facilitate local institutional engagement, while Statistics Denmark provides technical expertise. UBOS will maintain institutional ownership and designate a project manager to oversee execution.
