UEDCL Launches Nationwide Blood Donation Drive Targeting 3,000 Units
KAMPALA, UGANDA — [Date] — As part of its October Customer Experience Month activities, the Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) has officially launched a nationwide blood donation drive targeting 3,000 units of blood.
Held under the theme “The Extra Mile,” the initiative is a joint effort bringing together UEDCL, the Uganda Blood Transfusion Service (UBTS), and the Uganda Red Cross Society (URCS) to bolster the national blood supply and support patients in critical need of transfusions.
Speaking at the launch, UEDCL Managing Director Eng. Joselyn Rwakakooko Rwabwogo emphasized that true customer service extends far beyond reliable electricity delivery into the heart of community welfare.
“While UEDCL remains dedicated to improving electricity distribution, network strengthening, and response times, we also recognize our broader social responsibility to promote health and save lives,” said Eng. Rwabwogo. She commended the organizing teams and urged all eligible staff, customers, and members of the public across UEDCL’s 15 operational territories to roll up their sleeves and donate.
Representing the Uganda Blood Transfusion Service, Mr. Mugisha lauded UEDCL for championing the cause. He noted that annual national blood collections have grown to approximately 475,000 units, yet continuous voluntary contributions remain vital for surgical procedures, emergency medical care, and childbirth complications. He appealed to religious institutions, cultural leaders, and corporate bodies to treat blood donation as a shared civic responsibility.
Echoing this sentiment, Uganda Red Cross Society Secretary General Robert Kwesiga underscored that blood drives must be sustained year-round rather than treated as isolated events. He praised UEDCL for embedding life-saving outreach directly into its corporate calendar by bringing collection points closer to workplaces and communities.
Adding her voice to the drive, UEDCL Head of Customer Experience Evas Bwzirakakye invited Ugandans across all 15 territories to embrace voluntary donation, reminding the public that a single unit of blood has the power to save multiple lives.
The blood donation drive is actively coordinated through UEDCL’s Customer Experience and Corporate Affairs departments in partnership with regional territory managers.
