Twezuule foundation has partnered with Kyambogo university to sensitize the Kampala Metropolitan region university students with disabilities fraternity about how to prevent early pregnancies given their vulnerability status.

The development came to light over the weekend during a one-day dialogue organized by the foundation under the theme ‘Strengthening reproductive health for students with disabilities’ held at Kyambogo University.

The interactive dialogue brought together over 150 students with disabilities drawn from the universities of Makerere, KIU, MUBS and hosts Kyambogo among others  alongside several sector NGOs.

The students, largely females, got tips about how to avoid engaging in bogus sexual escapades that may lead them into the trap of early pregnancies as well as picking deadly diseases.

A high level panel of both Medical and legal rights experts gave tips focusing on strategic topics which are key in informing the ladies about how to make best and strategic decisions concerning their sexual health status.

These included a presentation by WoMENA Uganda titled ‘challenges female PWD students face in accessing menstrual health management services and products’

The Kyambogo university guild minister for disability affairs Wabuyu Hudson made a keynote presentation titled the importance of preventing early pregnancies among students with disabilities and the roles of the Universities in supporting these efforts.

The center for health, human rights and development [CEHURD] presented about how best PWD students can access and use legal services to prevent early pregnancies.

REACH A HAND Uganda presented about understanding sexual reproductive health and its roles in prevention of the problem.

FIDA Uganda discussed the legal aid services available to students particularly related to sexual and reproductive rights, and how to access these services inclusively.

The African women and girls’ organization [AWAGO] discussed pertinent issues these students face in regard to mental health and its impact on preventing early pregnancies and the importance of mental health support for these student’s services available for promoting wellbeing and informed decision making
