The entire world athletics family bows and respects the entity of Joshua Kiprui Cheptegei, a Ugandan long distance athlete.

A befitting introduction ought to be accorded to this 27-year-old legendary athlete who hails from Kapsewui, in Kapchorwa District.

He is the current world record holder for the 5000 metres and the 10,000 metres, holds the world best time over the 15 kilometres distance, the reigning Olympic champion in the 5000 m and the reigning three-time World champion in the 10,000 m.

Cheptegei also won a gold medal in the 5000 m and 10,000 m at the 2018 Commonwealth Games and at the 2019 IAAF World Cross Country Championships, the tenth man in history to hold the 5000 m and 10,000 m world records concurrently, both set in 2020.

This is just part of the rich profile for the athlete who intends to retire the track after the summer Olympic Games in Paris city, France this July – August.

Cheptegei’s list of admirers, partners, close associates and big brands that wish to work with him keeps swelling day and night.

On Wednesday, 8th May 2024, a new brand in Infinix Note 40 series officially joined Cheptegei’s bandwagon.

The officially announcement was made at the Mbale Courts View Hotel in Mbale city, about 60 KM from Kapchorwa town.

Addressing the media, Cheptegei was donned in an all brown tracksuit, branded with NIKE, his other long time sponsor.

He was accompanied by one his managers, Timothy Masaba as the Infinix team had Alex Liu (marketing director) and Isabel Ainembabazi (Assistant marketing and PR executive).

“I am happy to join hands with a global brand as Infinix” Cheptegei started his brief speech.ran

“For the past few weeks, I enjoyed the super Note 40 series phone. It charges very fast and because time is an essence to us athletes, it is worth to use. I thank Infinix for this partnership which extends to the CSR activities through the Joshua Cheptegei Foundation and the library at my school” he added.

In the deal, Infinix will donate gadgets (phones, smart watches and laptops) with other details yet to be concluded in the nearest future.

Liu appreciated Cheptegei’s willingness to partner with Infinix and pointed to that fact that being a fast speed brand, it was ideal to identify with the fastest athlete in the whole world via long distances.

“Infinix is excited to associate and work with Joshua Cheptegei. Our products operate on a fast speed and therefore prudent to partner with such a fast athlete in the whole world” Liu commented.

It is exactly 79 days to the Olympic Games in Paris city, France and the excitement is boiling up steadily.

Cheptegei has also upped his preparations at his high attitude native town of Kapchorwa, with all eyes and energies zeroed to the 10,000m.

“I am training well and getting ready. The 10,000m is my favourite race and I would love to give my best shot ever as I bid farewell to the track” Cheptegei assured.

Infinix who have also worked with young music diva Baby Gloria joins Cheptegei’s other partners as NIKE, Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) and UNDP.

As of 2023, the top 10 sports endorsement deals in the world included; Lebron James ($ 80M), Tigers Woods ($65M), Stephen Curry ($50M), Giannis Antetokoumpo ($45M), Rory Mclroy ($40M), Shohei Ohtani ($40M), Novak Djokovic ($29M), Jordan Spieth ($27M) and Carlos Alcaraz ($27M).
