Speke Resort Munyonyo plants trees to mark world Earth 2026.
Earth Day 2026 takes place on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, marking 56 years of global environmental action. The 2026 theme is "Our Power, Our Planet," which focuses on accelerating the transition to renewable energy, community-led climate solutions, and holding institutions accountable.
Speke Resort and Commonwealth Resort Munyonyo joined the rest of the world to celebrate the day with carrying out a tree planting activity by staff members at the lake side based facility.
In a statement shared by the resort’s management, the initiative was described as part of their long-term environmental responsibility. “At Speke Resort and Commonwealth Resort Munyonyo, we recognize that protecting the environment is a shared responsibility. Through activities like tree planting, we are committed to contributing to a greener and more sustainable future for generations to come.” Partly reads the statement.
The Speke Resort Convention Centre and Commonwealth Resort Munyonyo have been named among the premier five-star facilities in the country by the Uganda Tourism Board with top-tier accommodation facilities in the country underscoring the resort’s role as a venue for international events and luxury stays, signaling growing confidence in Uganda’s hospitality industry.
Earth Day began in 1970 when U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson, inspired by the passion of student anti-war protests, sought to channel that same energy into a national movement for the environment.
His vision was so powerful that it successfully pushed environmental protection onto the global political agenda, transforming a single day of American activism into a worldwide celebration.
This April, as the world turns its attention to the preservation and conservation of our planet, with facilities such as Speke resort taking the lead to sustain the environment.
