Despite announcing his retirement from Rally1 cars last year, Jourdan Serderidis admitted he still needed one last dance with the World Rally Championship cars. There was only one event to do that; the Safari Rally Kenya.

The 60-year-old Greek driver was occupying one of the Ford Puma rally1 and with it entered six WRC events until last year during his home event in Greece.

Serderidis has been a privateer, funding his own drive through the championship.

But the 71st edition of the Safari Rally brings Serderidis to another encounter with the WRC rally1. And he explained why.

“I love the Safari Rally because there is so much we get here that we no longer have in Europe. The enthusiasm and the challenge,” he said.

“The rally and the ambience are unique. It is fast but also difficult. You do not have to be the fastest but instead the cleverest. You don’t get this anywhere,” he added.

It is the Safari where Serderidis registered his best finish with a rally1 car; a seventh place overall in the 2022 edition.

However, in 2023, engine trouble ended his contention in leg two of the event.

With the Safari Rally experience, Serderidis is looking at attaining another top-ten finish this weekend.

“We would like to have a top ten. That’s the objective. But we never know, it’s a difficult rally with an unpredictable weather. Conditions can be very difficult but we are here to enjoy,” said Serderidis.

Jourdan Serderidis partners with Miclotte Frederic. They finished 14th overall in the opening stage of the Safari Rally in Kasarani on Thursday.
