Either Nkumba University or Kampala University will square up against Uganda Christian University (UCU), Mukono in the final of the 2023-2024 University Football League.

Nkumba University takes on Kampala University during the return leg of the semi-finals on Tuesday, 2nd April 2024 at the Nkumba University main campus playground in Nkumba, Katabi Town Council – Wakiso district.

Coming to this return leg, Nkumba University has a slim 1-0 advantage from the opening leg played at the Luzira playground in Kampala last week.

There is a lot to play for in the next 90 or so minutes to determine who makes the final grade to face UCU.

Prior to this Tuesday afternoon duel, Nkumba University has four advantages, a goal from the first leg, the psychological boost, local knowledge of their uneven playground and the home fans to cheer every move.

Under Dr Sulaiman Bbosa who works with former Nkumba University players Roch Somoka and Emmanuel Alex Wasswa on the touchline, the technical docket for the home team is well “secured”.

Dr. Bbosa has a variety of players at his disposal as goalkeepers John Andrew Obwana and Samuel Okiring, Mr reliable John Kennedy Ssewankambo, the team captain, the gangly South Sudanese forward Mamur Irivai and defender Henry Mukasa.

The other pool of players for the home side will consist of Reagan Opiyo, Ismael Lubega, Lukeman Kalule, Henry Mukasa, Saadi Mukiibi, John Kennedy Ssewankambo, Mamur Irivai, Isaac Musuga, Ishaque Balyawo, Aaron Kikoyo, Iddi Nabil, Kissim Kizza, Kenneth Ssebadduka, Abbey Kavuma, Timothy Byaruhanga and Justus Ssempijja, among others.

“It is a winner takes it all affair. We have all to play for in the semi-final return leg. We shall be very aggressive but cautious” Dr Bbosa, also a senior lecturer at Nkumba Universit stated.

The visiting Kampala University team has head coach Vincent “Titi-Camara” Tumusiime alongside Simon Peter Ojok on technical wing.

It remains to be seen whether Tumusiime will stick with the starting line up from last week or ring some changes.

From the first leg, Kampala University started with Brian Ozelle (goalkeeper), Marvin Mwavu, Sharif Ssembatya, Benjamin Nsubuga, Vicent Saka, Tony Ndase, Yosia Kiisa, Emmanuel Wabomba, Bill Lakomakech, Raymond Lubanga and Abbey Mulamba.

Subsistute goalkeeper Badru Ssekamanya, Nuhu Kalema, Gilbert Wanume, Brian Muhindo, Collins Namono, Nicholas Ssenyonjo and Paul Mugabo are also available.

“There were childish mistakes we made in the first leg. We need to minimize these mistakes and also utilize our chances. We were wasteful in the first leg” Tumusiime remarked in reference to the first leg.
