Rahul Dravid's Son Anvay Dravid Shines: Winmatch Update

Anvay Dravid, the younger son of India great Rahul Dravid, is quickly building a reputation of his own. The 17-year-old wicketkeeper-batter has earned attention for an aggressive style that looks very different from his father's famously patient approach. Recent reports also highlight a stunning knock in the Elite U19 Cup, adding to a run of strong performances.

Anvay began his career brightly in the Under-16 tournament, the Vijay Merchant Trophy, when he led the run charts with 459 runs in six matches. Later he led Kannada in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy and made 220 runs over six matches with a maximum of 82 runs. He was able to take Kannada to the quarter-final stage of this tournament. His performance in that shape paved the way for him to feature in Team C for the BCCI's U19 Challenger Trophy in Hyderabad in November 2025.

His elder brother Samit Dravid was called up into India's U-19 squad for the series against Australia but was ruled out due to injuries. Anvay is not like Samit, who is an all-rounder, he is just a specialist wicketkeeper-batter, which is a different road for him to make his way into the Indian team.

Standout Knocks for India Under-19

Anvay made his Youth ODI debut in July 2026 against Sri Lanka, and a few of his best performances since then include:

  • 87 off 67 balls in Hambantota, with nine fours and a six, after India slipped to 81 for 4

  • A 145-run fifth-wicket stand with Arjun Rajput, who scored 76 in the same innings

  • 38 off just 18 balls in Rajkot against Australia Under-19, at a strike rate above 211

The 87 Against Sri Lanka

Walking in during a collapse, Anvay played with confidence and helped India reach 285. He missed a century by 13 runs when left-arm pacer Gimhan Mendis, who finished with 5 for 41, removed him. India still lost the match by eight wickets.

The Rajkot Blitz Against Australia

India were 88 for 4 at the end of the 20 overs at the time of Anvay's introduction in a rain-affected match on September 18.On September 18, India was 88 for 4 when Anvay was introduced in a rain-bathed match. He hit three sixes and two fours in 38 deliveries to partner Yashbardhan Chauhan (54) to reach 182 for 6. It was a seven-run victory for India and the match also featured the debut of Aaryavir Sehwag, the son of Virender Sehwag.

What Makes Anvay Dravid a Winmatch-Worthy Prospect?

Anvay's forte is his ability to pick up the pace in an innings. He can quickly pacer up after going for early wickets, like he did in Hambantota, and he can also come into his own at the end of an innings, as he did in Rajkot. The balance of maturity and strength is not found in many young batsmen and is an ideal combination for contemporary limited-overs cricket where batsman are respected for their ability to change their game depending on the situation. He has been a wicketkeeper as well, and provides a second asset which is sought in the junior setup.

Handling the Weight of a Famous Surname

The attention he is receiving is extra, due to his father being a cricketing legend, so some fans have already asked if the media is exerting undue pressure on him. Anvay has been very quiet in the first half of the season, and has been rewarded accordingly. He has been able to perform under pressure moments at the international junior level with his performances in the Youth ODI series against Sri Lanka and Australia.

What Comes Next

Anvay is firmly in contention for the next Under-19 World Cup, and further runs in the coming months will strengthen his case. Consistency, especially in converting fifties into centuries, will be the next step in his development.
