Phrase 2 of Dettol hygiene quest campaign to leverage on tech-innovation to scale up in Uganda.

On 15th October 2025, Chil Group together with Reckit and partners launched the phrase 2 of the Dettol hygiene quest in Uganda to expand the campaign to more schools and districts following a successful implementation of phrase 1.
Hon Florence Nambooze Wamala, the Minister of state for Karamoja region, who was the Chief guest at the launch event that happened at Four Points by Sheraton in Kampala while applauding the partners of the hygiene campaign highlighted the importance of the hygiene camping to the school going children while hand washing.
She said this campaign has gone along way in minimizing hygiene related illnesses and contributed to better class performances. While calling for a sustainably plan for the campaign to create a greter impact at schools and the community.
“We need a sustainability plan to hand washing campaign as we execute phrase 2 in Uganda to avoid fading away the good habits at school. Community voluntary health worker can be observed to extend the campaign the community too” she said
Shamim Nabuuma
The CEO of Chil Group Ms. Shamim Nabuuma said that as the phrase 2 of the campaign is going to take advantage of the technology innovation to support the expansion of the campaign to other school and districts while monitoring schools activities in a more smarter and interactive way.
“We are expanding to more district such as Lira, Kampala, Isingiro, Sironko among others, we have added innovation with our partners to make the work faster for students and teachers. With the Dettol short card we are going to monitor hygiene activities easily, more interactive and smarter” she said
She called more partners from the private sector, to ensure every child is safe from hygiene related diseases and make hand washing and hygiene education a privilege
Mr. Shaka from Reckitt the producers of Dettol, herpic hygiene and other products, called for partners to create a health environment for children to exercise hand washing as a right of access to hygiene.
Dr. Safina Kisunsene from the Ministry of Education said that “as the ministry’s policy inspiration, hygiene is fundamental for schools health for better learning a compliment through engaging school life to ensure divinity and making children free from hygiene related illnesses”
In phrase 1 of the hygiene campaign, over 750 schools were reached in Uganda, construction of over 1500 hand washing facilities, trained school children, education hygiene materials among others.
The launch of the hygiene fell at the time when Uganda joined the rest of the World in commemorating Global Hand Washing Day that is celebrated on 15th October.
The National celebrations held in Mbale City under the theme “Be a Hand Washing Hero” highlighted importance of hand hygiene in promoting public health”.
