Over 1,261 graduate at Buganda Royal Institute of Business & Technical Education’s 20th ceremony.
During the graduation ceremony on Friday

On Friday 30th January 2026, Buganda Royal Institute of Business and Technical Education- Mengo held their 29th graduation ceremony where 1,261 students completed their studies with certificates and diplomas in various disciplines.  

The graduation held at the institute in Mengo was presided over by the Katikiro of Buganda Owek. Charles Peter Mayiga who conferred the graduates.

The Katikiro who was the Chief Guest at the ceremony handed over a plague and a financial award of 500,000/- to Ms. Babirye Angel as the best overall student with a diploma in Fashion Design.

She scored a cumulative grade point average of 4.8 out of 5.0 points followed with Expedito Ssekwayana as the second best student with 4.76 points.

The Principal of the institute, Mr Joseph Blikuddembe Ssenkusu in his remarks said that of the 1,261 graduates, 736 were female while 525 were male graduates in different programs.

He revealed that the institute is set to complete the development of a new strategic plan 2026 -2031 which he said will guide next 5 years direction while the expansion plan will witness the cnstrof new state of the article hostel facility to accommodate over 500 students projected to be completed by end of 2028.

“The institute completed the evaluation of the strategic plan 2021-2026 and the level of a new strategic plan 2026-2031 is in progress. We plan to construct a state of the art hostel facility that refects the royal image of he institute, meets standards and promotes student welfare” he said

The institute offers diploma and certificates in programs for day, event and weekend sessions, such as Fashion and Garment design, Automobile engineering, building and construction, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, Civil engineering, kindergarten and infant studies among others.

Established in 1999 by the Kingdom of Buganda, the institute is regulated, monitored and supervised by the Ministry of education and Sports and agencies including National Council for Higher Education, Uganda Vocational and Technical Assessment Board (UVTAB), and the TVET Council.
