Giroud heroics sends message to Lampard
Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud has given his thoughts on his impeccable display against Sevilla on Wednesday night, describing the occasion as a 'good night'.
The Frenchman scored four goals for the Blues to help them wrap up top spot in their Champions League group with a game to spare.
Giroud netted a perfect hat-trick before scoring a penalty to round off his sensational evening, the veteran striker sending a clear message to Frank Lampard amid a lack of game time.
Asked for his thoughts on his own performance after the game on BT Sport, Giroud said: "Well, yeah, when you win 4-0 in the Champions League away game, it's always a good feeling.
"We took the game from the front foot and we were efficient up front. It was a good night and also for me because I scored four goals."
Chelsea offer David Alaba three-year deal
Chelsea have reportedly offered David Alaba a three-year deal as they look to sign the Bayern Munich star on a free transfer at the end of the season.
Alaba, 28, has rejected Bayern’s attempts to sign him to a new contract and he is now expected to leave when his current deal expires next summer. He can begin negotiations with foreign clubs from January, and Chelsea are said to be at the front of the queue.
According to transfer expert, Nicolo Schira, Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus, and Chelsea are all interested in the versatile defender. Chelsea have offered a three-year contract, reports claim, but Alaba and his agent Pini Zahavi are holding out for a four-year deal.
Alaba has racked up more than 400 appearances for Bayern, winning nine Bundesliga titles and two Champions Leagues. He has most recently starred at centre-back, though he has extensive experience at left-back and central midfield and could feasibly start in any position.
Barcelona consider Rudiger approach
Barcelona are reportedly considering a move for Antonio Rudiger should a second approach for Manchester City’s Eric Garcia fail this January.
Garcia is still Barcelona’s number one choice and the club is expected to sign him when his contract in Manchester expires next summer. But with Gerard Pique suffering a long-term injury last month, the need to sign a centre-back is only more pressing.
And, according to Mundo Deportivo via the Daily Mail, if Garcia is once again unavailable in January, Barcelona boss Ronald Koeman has lined up Rudiger as a potential alternative.
Rudiger lost his place in the starting 11 to new signing Thiago Silva and Kurt Zouma, who has enjoyed a resurgence of his best form since the start of the season. As a result, he could look to move away for more regular playing time.
