The National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) is in the final stages of commencing the construction of new water projects that will bring the water connection network closer to the community living in the central district of Mpigi, Entebbe, Wakiso areas, along Entebbe express highway among others originating from Ssezi areas on Lake Victoria.

The projects according to Eng. Silver Mugisha the Managing Director of NWSC will go a long way in addressing the distance of conveying the water from the main water servers to the beneficiaries.

“We are planning to construct a project from Ssezi along Lake Victoria to serve part of Entebbe, Mpigi, Wakiso, along Entebbe express highway. The source of funding is planned, the design is ready, and the construction is soon starting. The project will convey water from the reservoirs to the people” he said.

The Managing Director NWSC while being hosted on the “Hard Questions” space said that the corporation over the years has made great milestones when they during his term of office focused more efforts and emphasized “service delivery to lower Ugandans” in addition to making profits.

“There has been massive expansion growth while ensuring access to water. From 23 towns to now 270 towns, serving over 4.5 million people, 6,500 Km of piped water from 22 Kms” he said

Eng. Silve also added that in addition to the Sewerage treatments systems in Lubigi, Kinawataka, Bugolobi, and others, NWSC is going to construct a new plant in Nalukolongo to boost the decentralized sewerage treatment

Meanwhile, in the message on World Water Day, NWSC re-affirmed its commitment towards improving water connectivity.

“As we celebrate this day, we reaffirm our commitment towards improved supply reliability and stability” it partly reads.

World Water Day, is annually held on 22 March since 1993, celebrating water and raising awareness of the people living without access to safe water. It also highlights the importance of fresh water and the day is used to advocate for the sustainable management of freshwater resources.
