It is advantage Nkumba University after the first leg of the semi-finals for the 2023-2024 University Football League (UFL).
The Wakiso district based institution edged Kampala University 1-0 during the well contested first leg played at the Luzira prisons playground on Tuesday, 26th March 2024.
An own goal from Tony Ndase past his own goalkeeper Brian Ozelle was all Nkumba University needed to win the contest.
Either sides remained offensive but the defenders had a busy day in office to tame their respective opposition.
Nkumba University will appreciate their goalkeeper John Andrew Obwana for that timely save from Raymond Lubanga in the dying moments of the game.
Dr. Sulaiman Bbosa, head coach at Nkumba University lauded the players for the collective display as he has set eyes to the return leg at home.
“I want to thank the players for the brave display in this victory over Kampala University. They played collectively as one unit. We are now preparing for the second leg that will be at our home in Nkumba” Dr. Bbosa remarked.
His counterpart at Kampala University, Vincent “Titi-Camara” Tumusiime hinted on the careless mistakes done to concede but was quick to assure of a better performance in return leg.
“Football has three things; win, draw or loss. We have lost after mistakes by my players and failure to convert the chances. Anyway, it was a very tactical game. We are taking attention to the return leg” Tumusiime stated.
The return leg will take place next week at the Nkumba University playground.
Meanwhile return leg of the other semi-final between Uganda Christian University (UCU) and MUBS will take place at the MUBS arena this Thursday, 28th March 2024.
