The National Resistance Movement (NRM) presidential candidate, General Yoweri Kaguta T. Museveni, has reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening palm oil growing and improve ferry services as a key wealth creation initiative that has transformed livelihoods in Kalangala District.

Speaking during an NRM presidential campaign rally at Kalangala Island, Museveni cited the success stories of palm oil farmers and said the government will continue enhancing the project while reassessing its suitability for small-scale landowners. He noted that for farmers with limited land, alternative income-generating activities such as dairy farming, coffee growing and other NRM-supported enterprises would be promoted under the ongoing wealth creation drive.

Museveni commended palm oil growers for embracing government guidance and credited them for the visible improvement in household incomes across the islands.

He also promised to study the proposed cage fish farming initiative presented by Kalangala District leaders, describing it as a sustainable approach to conserving the fishing sector while boosting incomes. In the same address, Museveni urged residents to diversify their economic activities beyond fishing to ensure long-term economic stability.

To improve transport and service delivery, Museveni pledged to restore night ferry services to and from Kalangala District, saying this would enhance continuity of social services and business operations. He further committed to tarmacking the Masaka–Kalangala road as part of upcoming infrastructure developments for the island district.

On social services, Museveni outlined plans to expand water distribution beyond the current 81 percent coverage and to establish more government primary and secondary schools. He also confirmed plans to upgrade Kalangala Health Centre IV to a district general hospital in his next term, aimed at improving last-mile health service delivery in a district that already has health centres in all sub-counties.

The NRM candidate rallied the youth of Kalangala to work hard and innovatively engage in the money economy through government-supported wealth creation programmes. He highlighted initiatives such as the four-acre model and similar projects designed to benefit small-scale landowners, citing successful examples from other parts of the country.

Museveni also guided residents on available job opportunities across various sectors.
