"Museveni Could Be Killed by Stress If NUP Takes Buganda Votes Again" Ruth Nankabirwa Allegedly Says

Energy Minister Dr. Canon Ruth Nankabirwa recently returned from the United States and went straight to Hotel Africana. She joined Attorney General Kiwanuka Kiryowa and new Buganda CEC member Haruna Kasolo to induct and motivate NRM MP flag bearers for the 2026 elections.

The retreat focused on strategies for how NRM and President Museveni can regain support in Buganda. Nankabirwa said it would be unusual for people in the Kabaka’s region to continue supporting the opposition NUP, especially since the Diaspora has embraced NRM and Musevenism.

Nankabirwa, who attended the UNAA annual event, claimed that NRM candidates now dominate the association, which brings together Ugandans living in North America. She said many candidates went unopposed, showing that Bobi Wine supporters have largely been pushed out.

“We are now effectively dominating UNAA to the extent that many of our NRM candidates have gone through unopposed,” Nankabirwa declared. “We have taken over that platform and I’m confident we will replicate this in Buganda come 2026.”

She expressed pride that NRM’s efforts transformed UNAA from a platform for anti-Museveni protests into a space where Ugandans responsibly market tourism and attract foreign investors.

Nankabirwa urged NRM flag bearers and those they defeated to work together and avoid creating political stress for President Museveni. She said the 81-year-old leader deserves to work in a stress-free environment.

She also highlighted that Museveni has shown consistent support for Buganda, even after setbacks in the 2021 elections, giving the region 14 ministers in his cabinet.

“I am here because of my President,” she said. “It’s for Mzee’s vote that I continue to be involved. That old man has done a lot for this country, and I’m in this because I hate to see him stressed anymore.”

Nankabirwa warned that internal fighting among NRM cadres, especially between flag bearers and independents, is one of the main sources of stress for Museveni. She told the audience that everyone has control over this and urged them to unite behind flag bearers to make the President proud.

Finally, she explained that NRM’s loss would affect individual party leaders more than it would affect Museveni personally. She encouraged members to work hard to ensure that the opposition’s 2021 wave in Buganda is not repeated in 2026.
