MoTIV launches initiative to promote local brands
Creative entrepreneurs have the opportunity to scale up their business to meet demand for local and international markets
MoTIV Creations has launched an initiative dubbed “Motivated Impact” to promote local brands while supporting Ugandan businesses through promoting local sourcing and providing an opportunity creative makers to access training, machinery and a market place.
The theme of the initiative is: “creating sustainable impact through applied technology hubs”
During an interview at the launch of the initiative on Tuesday 11th November 2020, the Team Lead C.K Japheth said that the initiative is aimed at building businesses from the creative sector especially the young people engaged in artisan making.
He said the young people who are based at MoTIV centre access training, learn new skills and access market for their products and partner in bulk production with other producers.
“Creative entrepreneurs have the opportunity to scale up their business to meet demand for local and international markets through manufacturing. However for this to happen we have a responsibility to create an enabling ecosystem that will favour makers and artisans right from the idea stage through production and on to the market” he said
He added that with support from partners, there can be solutions that will foster collaboration, impact and sustainability to allow the young people co tribute to the economy.
The Guest Speaker, Catherine Kasozi highlighted the need for research to ascertain how the cost of doing business can be brought down in order to support the young people which according to her needs to embrace the displine of growing their money while doing business.
She added that in order to sustain creative products from generation to generation, there is need to practice creative stewardship.
Nicolas Spencer, the Market Lead, at MoTIV said that with Uganda's population that is dominated by the youth who make up to 75% of the economy and experiencing scarcity of jobs, there is need to provide skills and manufacturing capacity to the creative industry as a solution to unemployment.
MoTIV Creative located on Old Port Bell road near National Water & Sewerage Services (NWSC) offices, is a work space for creators who mainly need exhibition room for their work, learning centre, access to the technology hi among other services.
MoTIV is open to creators in the fashion, art, beauty, metal fabrication, media, film and entertainment, carpentry, design businesses and others.
