Minister Musasizi tips accountants on how to drive sustainable economic growth.

The Minister of State for the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, in charge of General Duties, Hon. Henry Musasizi, has urged Accounting and Finance professionals to play a central role in balancing economic growth with sustainability.
The Minister, who is also a Member of Parliament for Rubanda East and a Certified Public Accountant, highlighted five critical areas where the contribution of Accounting and Finance Professionals is most impactful including: Credible financial reporting, championing sustainability reporting frameworks, structuring green and climate finance, public financial management reforms, driving digitization in public financial management and strengthening governance, transparency and accountability.

He made the remarks on Thursday, 4th September 2025 while officially opening the annual conference of the African Accounting and Finance Association (AAFA) at Speke Resort Munyonyo in Kampala.
This year’s conference is being held under the theme “Advancing Sustainability Outcomes in Africa: The Strategic Role of Accounting and Finance Professionals.”
Minister Musasizi noted that Africa is currently grappling with three pressing realities: climate change, rising public debt, and persistent inequality and informality, which must be addressed without compromising economic growth.
For Uganda, Minister Musasizi explained that long-term national frameworks such as Vision 2040, the National Development Plans, and the Tenfold Growth Strategy are aligned with global and continental goals, including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the African Union’s Agenda 2063.
These frameworks, he said, underscore sustainability, inclusiveness, resilience, and environmental responsibility as key pillars of development.
He applauded AAFA for providing a platform where professionals from across the continent can exchange ideas and craft solutions to emerging challenges, noting that such engagements are critical for Africa’s sustainable transformation
