The Minister of State for Youth and Children Affairs in the Ministry of Gender, Labour, and Social Development Hon. Dr. Balaam Barugahare Ateenyi has pledged to promote a new book that he launched on 20th December 2024 as part of priority areas that the creative industry cherishes.

The Minister, while launching the book at The National Theatre, said that the creative industry where the writing falls needs to be recommended by the Ministry of Education for students to study as one of the local books.

“This is the second book, after “The Rabbit on the Pulpit” I am very proud of you and I want to recommend that the Ministry of Education and Sports, kindly consider your work for literature study for our secondary school students It is one way of promoting our very own,” he said

Hon Balaam added that the creative industry has been proven to develop various opportunities for young people as it spans several areas, such as music, performing artists, video, photography, design, film, and craft.

“This industry, if nurtured, holds a huge potential for social economic transformation through job creation and creation of attendant small enterprises. Government has prioritized the creative industry in its NDP IV as one of the sectors that will cause the growth of employment opportunities for young people” he said  

It should be noted that Parliament is reviewing the copyright law to ensure that those in the creative industry can benefit from their work, a pledge the minister assured that he will ensure that their work Is protected.

During the launch of the book

The Author of the book Mr Bernard Mujuni said that he was propelled to write the book after falling victim to COVID-19 to express his experience with the disease.

He said that “the moving monologue, was inspired by documenting the realities of the COVID-19 pandemic. This adaptation brings untold stories of struggle & hope to life” he said

Bernard is a Commissioner, a Poet, a disruptive Social Innovator, author off “Author of Rabbit On The Pulpit” & now “The Diary of A COVID-19 Walker”’

The launch event featured an engaging performance by Ekobara led by Allan Odong who dramatically captured the essence of the pandemic.
