The vision for Medical College, Baroda was conceived by His Highness Sir Sayajirao Gaekwad III, a ruler known for his progressive stance on education and social reform. However, it was under the reign of Major General Sir Pratapsingh Gaekwad that the foundation was formally laid in 1946.

With the relentless efforts of Dr. Jivraj Mehta (the first Chief Minister of Gujarat and a visionary in Indian medicine), the college officially opened its doors on June 16, 1949, with an initial batch of 40 students. Today, it has grown into a massive academic hub, recognized by the National Medical Commission (NMC) and the World Health Organization (WHO).
