KYENJOJO DISTRICT STEPS UP PREPARATIONS FOR FY 2025/26 NATIONAL PERFORMANCE ASSESSMENT

KYENJOJO: Kyenjojo District has officially launched preparations for the FY 2025/26 Local Government Performance Assessment with a mock assessment entry meeting that brought together Heads of Departments, Sub-county Chiefs, Town Clerks, Accountants, and political leaders to strengthen readiness ahead of the national exercise.

The meeting focused on ensuring that all departments and Lower Local Governments are adequately prepared for the forthcoming National Local Government Performance Assessment to be conducted by the Ministry of Local Government in collaboration with the Office of the Prime Minister.

Speaking during the meeting, Deputy Chief Administrative Officer Mr. Vincent Kyaligonza urged all departments and Lower Local Governments to fully support the mock assessment process by providing accurate information and the required documentary evidence. "This exercise is about demonstrating compliance, transparency and our collective commitment to delivering quality public services. Let every officer provide accurate information and the necessary evidence," Mr. Kyaligonza said.

Presenting the district's performance briefing on behalf of the District Planner, Ms. Immaculate Atuhurra, Senior Treasurer Mr. Jordan Alicwamu highlighted Kyenjojo District's impressive progress in the FY 2024/25 national assessment.

He revealed that the district improved its national ranking from 151st to 90th out of 176 Local Governments, climbing an impressive 61 positions. The improvement was largely attributed to outstanding performance in the Production sector and Micro-scale Irrigation programme.

According to the presentation, the Production sector recorded the district's best performance, improving from 40 percent to 90 percent. Other sectors also registered notable progress, with Water and Sanitation increasing from 49 percent to 70 percent, Health from 50 percent to 71 percent, Education from 41 percent to 68 percent, and Infrastructure from 36 percent to 57 percent. Micro-scale Irrigation maintained a strong performance score of 84 percent.

Despite the encouraging achievements, district officials emphasized the need for greater preparedness ahead of this year's assessment. Priority areas include strengthening documentation, ensuring timely reporting, enhancing supervision, conducting regular mock assessments, and improving staff commitment to sustain the district's upward performance trajectory and deliver better services across all Lower Local Governments.

District Chairperson Hon. Gilbert Rubaihayo commended the technical team for the significant improvement in the district's national ranking and reaffirmed the district leadership's commitment to accountability and quality service delivery. "Performance assessments enable us to measure our progress, identify areas for improvement, and ensure better services for our people. We are fully committed to this process, especially under the new 'Kisanja No More Sleep' agenda," Hon. Rubaihayo said.

He challenged both the technical and political leadership to strive for 100 percent performance in the FY 2025/26 assessment, noting that success will depend on early preparation, active involvement of Local Council leaders during the mock assessment process, and continuous collaboration whenever support is required.

The mock assessment exercise is expected to help the district identify and address performance gaps before the national assessment, further strengthening governance, accountability, and effective service delivery for the people of Kyenjojo.
