Kabalega Independence Week 2025 activities officially launched in Hoima City.

On Saturday, the 13th September 2025, The Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom Prime Minister Owek. Andrew Byakutaga Ateenyi launched a series of activities dedicated to the Kabalega Independence Week 2025
The independent week’s 4-day activities that will kick off on 1st through 4th October 2025 will be activated under the theme: “Celebrating Culture, Spurring Innovation & Community Transformation,” while celebrating the legacy of Omukama Cwa II Kabalega.
During the launch of the activities at Hoima Resort Hotel, Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom Prime Minister, Owek. Andrew Byakutaga Ateenyi, as the Chief Guest, emphasized the enduring relevance of Kabalega’s legacy, describing him as not only a great monarch but also a visionary leader who inspired resilience, unity, and self-determination in the face of colonial oppression.
“Omukama Kabalega was more than a king; he was a visionary whose courage and determination empowered our people to rise against colonial domination. His legacy calls us to preserve our culture while embracing innovation as a driver for sustainable transformation,” he said.
The Premier said that Kabalega Independence Week is designed to blend cultural celebration with modern aspirations, highlighting the role of youth, entrepreneurs, and communities in advancing Uganda’s Vision 2040 and the Sustainable Development Goals.
Meanwhile, the Hoima City Lord Mayor, Brian Kaboyo Adyeri who was represented by the Hoima East Division Mayor, Muhabuzi Johnbosco warmly welcomed the Independence Week celebrations and pledged full support for the programs. “There is no more time for lamentation, but for action,” he noted.

The Executive Director of Kabalega Foundation, Dr. Kisoro John, also welcomed participants and partners to the initiative, stressing that the week is not just a commemoration but a platform for empowering communities.
“Kabalega Independence Week is a movement to connect our cultural heritage with the aspirations of today’s youth and entrepreneurs. It is an opportunity to showcase creativity, spur innovation, and strengthen partnerships that can transform communities,” he said.
The event organized by the Kabalega Foundation in partnership with the Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom has outlined a series of activities including: a Business and Innovation Expo at Boma Grounds on October 2, the Kabalega Memorial Lecture on October 3 at Resort Hotel, and the Kabalega Independence Run on October 4, also at Boma Grounds.

Anna Reismann, the Country Representative for Uganda and South Sudan at Konrad Adenauer Stiftung, thanked the Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom Prime Minister for the transformation efforts in Bunyoro and commended Dr. Kisoro for organizing such a remarkable event.
She further noted that the foundation is partnering with the Kabalega Foundation and the Kingdom this year to commemorate the legacy of Omukama Kabalega, describing him as a great king and hero.
Later in the evening, the Prime Minister launched the official kits for this year’s Independence Run, which will be sold at UGX 25k.
The launch ceremony attracted government officials, cultural leaders, development partners including Konrad Adenauer Stiftung, sponsors, media representatives, and members of the public.
