INSM Uganda Chapter Drums Up Support For Digital Empowerment of Uganda’s Single Mothers in Business.

On 25th March 2026, The International Network for Single Women (INSM) Uganda chapter held a press conference to raise awareness and drum support for single mothers in Uganda starting with Kampala areas through empowering them to become better production engines to transform themselves and families leveraging on the digital platforms available to expand markets for products and services.  

During a press conference organized by MJ Media Agency and Partners, themed: “From street to digital” , Winfred Nassanga the Chairperson of INSM Uganda Chapter highlighted that they have build a network of single mother across all the divisions of Kampala to align with the goal of wealth creation through training them to produce market ready goods to boost their incomes through digital channels.

She said the organization has developed app and a website to empower and encourage women leverage the digital platform to boost their businesses.

“Our focus is on moving our mothers from subsistence hand to mouth labour into value addition. Whether it’s in commercial agriculture or tourism, we are training our women to produce market ready products that can compete anywhere. By providing the right infrastructure, we are capturing the value that usually goes to middlemen and putting it back into the pockets of women who do the work” she said.

She said that in order to realize a better future for the children and the economy at large, there is a need to invest in the women who she says when skilled can create a workforce necessary to grow communities.

“ When you invest in a single mother, you are not just helping one person. You are securing the future of our nation. Statistics show that mothers re-invest up to 90% of her income directly back into her family. This mean better health, nutrition, education for over 400,000 children across our network. We have written to the President of Uganda, awaiting his response for the cause” she explained.

She called upon leaders to enhance support towards and join hands with the single mothers network to tap into the potential they possess through model the have unveiled to reach them.

Hon. Doreen Keita Kagabi a NRM Chairperson and Mobiliser, Makindye West commended the work of single mothers in all the divisions of Kampala while calling upon leaders to support the movement specially those involved in trade, agriculture, vending among others.

She urged single to mothers to team up and find their strength to share ideas and work together while avoiding people who take advantage of their strength .

“Bring your strength, let’s unite. We have mobilized women for the last 5 years. We must support this movement” she said.

Lt. Con Judith Asiimwe from UPDF said following that the President’s pledge during the campaigns to support single mother groups in Uganda, and the street clean up in Kampala that followed targeting mostly women, she said they plan to trading the former street vendor on digital skills to benefit from government program and special presidential support to uplift the single mothers.

INSM Uganda Chapter is a women led movement that has reached out to the single mother in the communities they serve with a network of over 17,000 women across the divisions in Kampala, In Makindye and Kampala division alone, they have mobilized over 10,000 women standing up together with leadership in every parish as a single mothers economic engine.
