The 13th African Games hosted by Ghana in West Africa were about the celebration of African sportsmanship, rich cultural heritage and unity.

Uganda was among the 54 countries that competed in the games that had 29 games hosted in 9 venues in the cities of Accra, Kumasi and Cape Coast.

Overall, Uganda earned 20 medals from the different sports disciplines competed in. These included 4 gold, 6 silver and 10 bronze medals.

Uganda collected four gold medals from weightlifting, rugby 7’s (men and women) and cycling.

The six silvers are in football (men), weightlifting (2), badminton and athletics (2).

There are 10 bronze medals came from swimming, badminton, weightlifting, cricket, football (women U-20), women Javelin, boxing (3) and basketball men 3X3.

Swimmer Anna Gloria Muzito won the first medal for the country in the 400M free-style event.

Weightlifter Davis Niyiyota won the most medals as an individual (three).

Rugby produced two gold medals for the men and women 7’s teams.

Meanwhile, Uganda also won two medals from Scrabble (gold and silver) which was among the demonstration games.

The official closing ceremony was held at the University of Ghana stadium before a capacity crowd with the president of Ghana H.E Nana Addo the chief guest.

Egypt will host the next African Games in 2027.
