From the Bottom to the Top: Makerere Student Reveals How She Became Best Graduate

For Alice Namutebi, a hardworking yet struggling student from Kampala, Uganda, her time at Makerere University was filled with challenges. In the early years, she consistently lagged behind her classmates, despite putting in long hours of study.

“I attended lectures, took thorough notes, and revised constantly, but my grades never matched my effort,” Alice recalls. “I was often at the bottom of the class, and my confidence suffered. I even began to doubt if I could ever succeed.”

Alice explored every possible solution — hiring tutors, joining study groups, and attending extra lessons — but nothing seemed to make a difference.
