Express players set condition before honouring Maroons fixture

  • Maroons vs Express FC – Luzira 4pm
  • Wakiso Giants vs Mbale Heroes – Mbale 4pm

After a week of trouble at Express where players boycotted training over unpaid salaries and allowances, the players have promised to honour the fixture against Maroons on condition they get some payment.

According to reliable sources, the disgruntled players held a meeting with the CEO Ashraf Miiro on Friday to resolve the issue that has players abscond from training since Monday.

“We shall play as per the fixture but on one condition, the CEO pays as he has promised from the meeting we have had,” a player who preferred anonymity told Kawowo Sports.

It is reported that the players are owed six months arrears in salaries and haven’t received transport allowances in over two months.

Asked what the playing staff have agreed with CEO in percentage of payment before the Maroons game, the player said; “He has promised to pay but I don’t know how many months.”

Express are winless in the past three league matches and only picked one victory in six matches losing the rest.

In their reverse fixture against Maroons, the two sides played to a goalless draw at Nakivubo.

The seven-time champions haven’t beaten Maroons since a 2-0 win in 2023.
