EC Chairperson Byabakama urges citizens to actively participate in the forthcoming LC elections

The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Justice Byabakama Mugenyi Simon, on Sunday 5th July 2026 joined the faithful participants at a Holy Mass at Rubaga Cathedral, where he encouraged citizens to actively participate in the forthcoming Local Council I & II and Women Council/Committees Elections.

He emphasized peaceful participation, civic responsibility and making informed electoral, and called on all Ugandans to support the Commission’s efforts to deliver free, fair and credible elections.

The Chairperson of shared several crucial points regarding the upcoming administrative unit and women’s committee 

He pointed out that Citizens must proactively register and vote to shape local leadership while avoiding violence and prioritizing social stability during the electoral process.

 “The electorate must choose representatives based on clear leadership qualities and programmatic manifestos. Ugandans need to cooperate with the Electoral Commission to ensure a transparent, valid, and legally sound process across all villages” he said.

Recently the EC launched the Electoral Program that starts on actively starts in Monday 6th July 2026 with preparation of the village voters register and will culminate into elections period that will commence on 28th July 2026.
