Dei BioPharma set to produce Biofuel at the Namasagali plant.

When Dei BioPharma was commissioned in November last year, it was reported that it intends to commence converting cassava into pharmaceutical grade ethanol, bio starch, and green biofuels with the facility intending to act as a significant bio-economy hub, producing the biofuels product. 

Under Uganda’s Biofuels Act, 2020, producers are required to comply with specific regulations regarding the production, storage, and transportation of biofuels.

In the bid to comply with the regulation, Dei BioPharma has applied for a license to produce biofuel in the Namasagali plant in Uganda.

In a notice released on Monday May 4th 2026, the plant “Intends to integrate it’s Bio starch with distillery and commence with the production of the biofuel on or about March 2027”

According to the statement, the production facility harness most of the energy required for production from biomass, which is readily available.

In order to achieve zero liquid discharge into surface water, management said that they will install a molecular sieve dehydration unit and a biomethanation plat together with a multi effect evaporation system.  

The management of the plant is awaiting feedback from any person opposing grant of the license which is expected to be submitted to the renewable department of ministry of energy and mineral development within 14 days from the date of publication.

The plant situated in Busaambu village, Bwiza parish, Namasagali subsou ty in Kamuli district Intends to produce over 150,000 litters per day when fully operational.
