Generally speaking, firm foundations make long-lasting structures that stand a test of time given all prevailing conditions.
In sport, these firm foundations are established with proper structures of talent tapping from the grass-roots level.
At this fragile grass-roots level, the players in the box are equipped with crucial skills, confidence, values of teamwork, diligence, commitment and mutual respect.
Judging from the recently held 2025 All Girls Volleyball championship at Namugongo Secondary and Vocational School, the future of volleyball among the females in Uganda is ripe and promising.
This championship had two clusters; the U-16 and U-21 with the players showcasing the outstanding skills in the volleyball sport.
The sweet services to roll off play, awesome reception, setting, reflexes to save stray balls, offensive moves and defensive blocks left far reaching impressions.
Despite the initial disruptions due to challenging rainy conditions, the championship progressed as planned with a great turnout of schools at the primary and secondary levels.

U-21 Category:
By close of business, Kinawa High School Mugongo emerged victorious in the U-21 section.
Katikamu SDA SS was first runners up and Ubuntu Hill School took the second runners up slot.
U-16 Category:
From Eastern Uganda, Iganga Secondary School bossed the U-16 category ahead of the seasoned Sunrise Primary School Matugga.
Namugongo Secondary and Vocational School was second runners up in the U-16 section.
The outstanding schools earned trophies and medals. There were also prizes for the individual top performers.

“The 2025 All Girls Volleyball championship was a success. There was excellent fair play and sportsmanship among the participating teams.” Muhammed “Nepo” Angiro, a member of the organizing committee commented.
The only grey patch happened when Katikamu SDA SS failed to show up for the finals, which resulted in Kinawa High School Mugongo being declared the champion in the U-21 category.

Going forward, the 2026 shall witness new horizons, including extending more invitations, exploring new venues and refining the tournament format to ensure a smoother and more enjoyable experience for all participants.
