BREAKING!! Derrick Nyeko Swallows His Pride, Joins The MP Race Again After Quiting, Robert Kyagulanyi Allegedly Pleaded With Him

Breaking news from Makindye East! Member of Parliament Derrick Nyeko has shocked many by making a dramatic comeback into the 2026 race — only weeks after he announced he was quitting politics.

Nyeko, who entered Parliament in 2021 under the National Unity Platform (NUP) ticket, appeared this week before the party’s Election Management Committee for vetting. His unexpected appearance sent waves through the party, as many had already moved on from his earlier exit.

When asked by journalists about his sudden U-turn, Nyeko chose his words carefully and said only, “I am here to be vetted.” His silence left many questions unanswered but the twist quickly became the talk of the constituency.

Behind the scenes, however, the story is clearer. According to Nyeko and sources within NUP, it was none other than party president Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine, who personally convinced him to return.

Bobi Wine reportedly urged Nyeko to stay in the contest, citing his strong grassroots support, experience, and influence in Makindye East. Nyeko said he could not ignore such a personal plea from the NUP leader.

Earlier this month, Nyeko had left supporters disappointed when he announced on social media that he would not seek re-election. He said his choice was made after “deep reflection” and called his first term one of service, growth, and loyalty to the people who elected him.

His withdrawal created a political vacuum, with several aspiring candidates rushing to declare their interest in the seat. Among them were former NBS journalist Robert Sekidde, also known as Tuff B, James Kayondo, Calvin Bakulumpagi, and Patience Ayesigye.

Now that Nyeko is back in the running, the dynamics have completely shifted. His incumbency, name recognition, and the backing of Bobi Wine instantly change the balance of power within the NUP primaries.

Observers believe that Nyeko’s re-entry shows just how influential Bobi Wine remains inside NUP. His word not only reshaped one man’s decision but also altered the path of the whole Makindye East contest.

With the 2026 elections fast approaching, the big question is whether Derrick Nyeko can ride on his incumbency and Bobi Wine’s blessing to defeat his rivals and hold onto the seat. One thing is clear: Makindye East is set to be one of the hottest political battlegrounds in Kampala.
