Basketball Africa League | Fixture

  • Al Ahly (Egypt) vs City Oilers – 8 PM

Uganda’s representative City Oilers will start life in the Basketball Africa League (BAL) against hosts Al Ahly on Friday, April 19 at the Dr Hassan Moustafa Sports Hall in Cairo, Egypt.

City Oilers will seek to avenge the holders Al Ahly having suffered a narrow 70-72 loss at the same stage.

Ahead of the highly anticipated duel, City Oilers gaffer stated that he expects a touch challenge from Al Ahly but they team will offer it’s best to put a deserving fight.

“We are in a tough group. It’s not going to be easy,” he stated.

“BAL is a good league, and it’s getting better each year. The competition levels are high this year and our goal is to compete with the very best,” he added.

The Oilers will seek to start the campaign on a high so as not to rely on mathematics but rather take up a direct root to the playoffs slated for May in Kigali, Rwanda.

With the additions of Rembert Patrick Ronald and Ahmed Bashir Mohammed, the Oilers look a decent team to put up a fight against Al Ahly.

“We will give our best every time we step on the court, and that is our primary mission. We aim to maintain a positive mentality and the results will manifest. We want to give ourselves a chance to qualify to the playoffs,” he concluded.

Al Ahly pose a tough challenge to Oilers, they are a big team and can shoot the ball with ease. The Oilers will be required to bring their best game both offensively and defensively to match the holders.

After Al Ahly (Egypt), the Oilers will take on Bangui of Central Africa Republic before they conclude the conference with Al Ahly Benghazi of Libya.

In the three tough matches, City Oilers only need two wins to secure a ticket to the playoffs that will happen later in May.
