Baby Cricket Cranes have chosen to start preparing early for their U-19 World Cup Qualifiers with a tri-nation youth tournament.
The youth series will feature Kenya, Rwanda and Uganda and will be hosted in Jinja from March 26th – 1st April.
The three nations will play a double round robin with the top two sides qualifying for the final.
Uganda finished in 3rd place at the U-19 Qualifiers in Tanzania last year but their performances were a sign of all of the things that need to be done to help youngsters prepare early for such events.
Uganda’s batting was so poor a sign that the youngsters didn’t have the skills to apply in the longer format. Uganda missed out on a consecutive U-19 World Cup appearance. Uganda has been to the U-19 World Cup three times in 2004, 2006 and 2022.
The next World Cup will be hosted in Zimbabwe in 2026 with the qualifiers slated for 2025.
Kenya who finished second in the qualifiers in Tanzania has the same goal as Uganda of using this tournament to expose their youngsters to good competition as early as possible. Kenya has also been to the U-19 World Cup with their last appearance in 2018.
Rwanda is fighting its way up from Division 2 in Africa and for them, this tournament gives them a chance to prepare their youngsters for the Division 2 qualifiers in August in Malawi.
The games will all be played at the Jinja SSS oval with the sides playing the 50-over format.
The action starts at 10:00am every day with the final slated for 1st April.
