AIW2025: Uganda introduces Implementation Guidelines for Protective Helmet Standards at the Africa Youth Startup Forum 2025.
Experts have revealed that nearly 80% of road safety issues stem from limited leadership engagement including a strong certification systems to boost branding and continuous performance improvement.
Experts have also highlighted the key role of adopting quality-driven principles and understanding how certification enhances credibility, consistency, and customer assurance.
During the Africa Youth Startup Forum 2025, SG on he sidelines of the ongoing Africa Industrialization Week (AIW) at Speke Resort Hotel Munyonyo, Uganda launched a new coordination mechanisms for Uganda’s Protective Helmet Standards focusing mainly on the youth heavily dorminantin the Boda Boda transport.
Experts agree that “Standardized helmets are essential for safeguarding riders and passengers and reducing head injuries in the event of road traffic accidents” as mobility Safety is an engine for industrial transformation.
The guidelines provide information on how to implement the requirements for protective helmets and other personal protective equipment product standards.

The launch was part of today’s Africa Youth Start-up Forum that discussed the Mobility Safety Industry: A new Frontier for Youth Innovation and Industrialization.
Vicent Kasozi, the Principal Certification Officer at Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) highlighted the benefits of the certification guidelines including; Increased Trust and Credibility: Certification provides assurance that a product meets certain standards of quality, safety, and performance, market Access especially international ones, require certified products to meet regulatory standards, competitive advantage, risk reduction, consumer protection among others.
“Certified products often enjoy a competitive edge over non-certified ones. They are more reliable, safe, and of higher quality. Certification helps reduce the risk of product failure, safety incidents, certified products generally perform better, leading to higher customer satisfaction” he said.
The theme of the AIW 2025 is: “Transforming Africa’s Economy through Sustainable Industrialization, Regional Integration & Innovation”
