MUMBAI — December 26, 2020: The rapid adoption of Work-From-Home (WFH) practices during the COVID-19 pandemic significantly influenced residential relocation patterns in India, creating fresh demand for professional home shifting and storage solutions, according to Agarwal Packers and Movers, DRS Group.

“We have experienced a significant increase in the use of storage solutions in recent months. Customers moving temporarily to their hometowns are choosing secure warehouse facilities to keep their household belongings safely until they are ready to move them again,” Mr. Agarwal explained.

The company reported approximately 25% growth in storage usage during the period, reflecting changing consumer requirements. Customers from sectors including banking, defence, IT-enabled services and the public sector were among those using professional storage facilities.

Traditionally, a large share of professional relocation demand has been generated by employees transferring between cities. Defence personnel, IT and IT-enabled services professionals, public-sector employees and private-sector workers have historically contributed significantly to intercity household relocation.

The widespread adoption of remote working introduced a new reason for people to relocate. Employees who no longer needed to commute to an office every day gained greater flexibility in choosing where to live.

For relocation companies, this shift has created opportunities to provide more flexible services covering household transportation, temporary storage and longer-distance moving requirements.
