Uganda’s outstanding agriculture sector players recognized at The Annual Agriculture Awards
Individuals and organizations have exhibited immense commitment to contribute to the development of the agriculture sector have been recognised and awarded under the national Annual Agricultural Awards has recognised and rewarded outstanding individuals and organizations that have contributed and innovated towards development of the agricultural sector.
The theme of the Annual Agricultural Awards 2021 was: “Agriculture Business & Innovations for Development”
The award ceremony that was held on 20th April 2022 at Imperial Royale hotel in Kampala attracted agriculture sector stakeholders including agriculture technology innovation, media, research, inputs, seeds, policy academia, public service among others.
During the Award ceremony, the Chief Guest , State Minister for Animal Industry Hon Bright Rwamirama, pictured above urged farmers to focus their efforts improved productivity despite limited arable land due to the surging population through the adoption of modern science, enhancing soil nutrition, tackling animal and crop pests and diseases among other issues.
“For agricultural productivity and efficiency along all the commodity value chains, we need to produce for the surging population through science, best practices, best varieties, good nutrition for poultry and livestock, soil fertility to achieve high yields” he said
The Country Director, Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) Antonio Querido (pictured giving certificate below), applauded the organisers of the agriculture awards for recognises the food heroes citing their greta contribution to economies.
He expressed continued commitment to supporting the awards in future.
“Am happy to be part of the agriculture awards 2021and to join agriculture sector stakeholders to recognize our food heroes. The role of farmers is paramount and FAO is committed to supporting the next awards ceremonies to come. Congratulations to the winners" he said
The Annual Agricultural Awards 2021 were designed to highlight the importance of agriculture development in line with the 2014 African Union Malabo declaration that calls for importance to highlight Agriculture. The Awards focused to appreciate individuals, organizations, districts, agencies and companies that have steadily, effectively and accurately enhanced the value of Agriculture in Uganda over the years.
One of the judges of the awards nominees Aron Muhame said that the citeria used for winners based on the public voting of over 60,000 voters for the 17 categories.
Among the award categories according to the Award judge included: Best scientists-Agricultural Research, 2021 Extension Worker Award of the Year, Agribusiness and Agriprenuer Award 2021, 2021 Policy makers’ Award. (aims to motivate policy advocacy, Golden Jubilee Agricultural Award (Focusing on contributions to agricultural development in last 50years), Exceptional Personalities and change Champions award, Agri-Media Awards , Agri-Insurance Award among others.
