Ugandan Billionaire Ham to start own Football Club to nurture young talent.
The Founder of Ham Group Of Companies, Hamis Kiggundu after completing the redevelopment of The War Memorial Nakivubo Stadium is planning to start a new Ugandan-based Football Club to develop the football game in Uganda aimed at nurturing and promoting Ugandan young talent.
The team according to Ham will be supported to participate in international games which he said will revitalize the game in Uganda.
“After the completion of this stadium, I think Uganda will get back to the top of African football because we will be able to promote and recommend our players to play in international leagues. I’ve not just built a stadium for the sake of it, but this means I’m now part of the sports fraternity. It’s me who is going to change the face of football with my team that will use this as their home ground,” he said

Ham added that the playground will also host netball and basketball courts.
“Netball was one of the games played on this facility and it has gained popularity in the country, so we shall also cater for them with a court,”
He said that upon completion, the home and visiting teams will enjoy unique facilities at the ground including; lifts for the physically handicapped, cinema halls, an area for indoor games like Table Tennis and Pool, VIP boxes which can be booked by a group of people on top of ordinary sitting, VVIP and executive boxes on the first tier, medical section room, Parking for service vehicles, big screens, security cameras among others.
“So, from the turf to the dressing rooms to the stands and everything else will be completed to international standards. We have followed modern stadium trends from all over the world in whatever we have included in the construction of this facility because we didn’t want visiting teams to have excuses with anything regarding the facility” he said
The Nakivubo Stadium was first built on April 1st, 1926. Renamed “War Memorial” when the British administration renovated it in 1954 in honor of the Ugandans who sacrificed their lives in the Second World War. Ham took over the redevelopment of the stadium in 2017.
