The Uganda Red Cross Society (URCS) together with the Nnabagereka Development Foundation have formerly entered into a Memorandum of Understanding on 16th December 2025 aimed at empowering the Uganda’s youth, women and children while nursing the culture of compassion for humanity.
URCS was represented by its Secretary General, Mr. Robert Kwesiga, alongside Dr. Ham Mulira Mukasa, Chairperson of the Board of the Nnabagereka Development Foundation, representing the Nnabagereka Foundation.
According to the Spokesperson of the Uganda Red Cross Society, Irene Nakasiita, the Memorandum of Understanding with the Nnabagereka Development Foundation, marks the beginning of a strategic partnership to empower children, youth, and women across Uganda.
“This partnership will focus on empowering children and youth through first aid training, humanitarian values, life skills, menstrual health education, blood donor mobilisation, and nurture a culture of compassion and service among young people” she said.
The Chairman of the Nnabagereka Development Foundation, Dr. Ham Muliira, in his remarks said that for the last 25 years, the Foundation has been at the forefront of leveraging culture for the social transformation of children, youth, women and men through envisioning an equitable, inclusive, and peaceful environment, grounded in human virtues.
“By signing this Memorandum of Understanding, we are taking a giant leap forward in leveraging our institutional resources to contribute to our nation’s social transformation. Anchoring the Foundation’s goal of recognizing Obuntubulamu as a human capital asset in the contemporary world is brought to the fore of this partnership” he said.
Exchange of the signed MOU
The Chairman said that the partnership is natural because the foundations core values align perfectly with the Red Cross principle of "Humanity" as the mirror image of the philosophy of "Obuntubulamu." Which call upon looking out for our neighbour, to serve without discrimination, and to alleviate suffering.
The Foundation committed to: Officially weave URCS activities into the Ekisaakaate curriculum including first aid and life skills, and using cultural and community networks to mobilize youth to participate in these life-saving sessions.
“It is a promise to the youth of Uganda. It is a promise that we will equip them with the culture to know who they are, and the skills to keep themselves and their communities safe” the Chairman re-echoed.
