The Uganda Land Commission is set to partner with local government leaders and stakeholders to update government land Inventory aimed at enhancing land management and utilization in Uganda.

According to Uganda Land Commission (ULS), they will also involve the physical planning departments and city and town land boards in the selected cities and towns.

During a press conference held on Monday 15th December 2025 at the Media Center, Commissioner John Fisher Kasenge from Uganda Land Commision said that that “We were engaging our key stakeholders that includes the political leaders of the municipalities and cities like mayors and councillors. The engagement involved the physical planning department of all these cities and municipalities. One of our key objectives of this engagement, one is to enhance cohesion, togetherness, harmony and partnership with all those key stakeholders because they also have a part to play in the management of government land”

He said that since the inception of Uganda Land Commission, they have been grappling with the issue of lack of an updated, accurate and therefore reliable inventory of all government land in the country as mandated to manage and hold

government land and property in the entire country.

“We have been finding it difficult to have this information about where government land still lies and therefore when we work out together as a team, there's a lot we can do to improve government land management and utilization” he said

The Commission also intend to have a digitalized, accurate, updated inventory of all government land wherever it lies through making use of information that individuals, leaders, authorities and any other partners may have at useful in making sure they know where government land is.

It should be noted that there was a time during Amin's time, when there was a decree that all land belinged to government where all useful documents were rendered and lost, calling upon support.

“That's why we have come out to the nation, we have come out to the municipalities and the cities and eventually even the communities are getting this information through those partners that we have met that we need this information. Now this inventory, once updated and made accurate and digitalized, will go a long way in assisting us in our processes” the Commissioner said.

The Secretariat ULC Andrew Nyumba said that all those found illegally occupying government the commission will assist them to register for proper ownership.

“To legalize. We shall ask them to formally apply and it’s a very easy process. Whoever wants government land, It’s a very simple exercise or process of acquiring government land. You can come to the office here at Nakawa Business Park, Block B, 4th floor, and fill the form, application form. It is 20,000/-and you get a receipt” he said
