Tycoon Sudhir ranked highest Corporate Real Estate Tax Payer

Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia, founder and Chairman of the Ruparelia Group, is consistently ranked by the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) as one of Uganda's largest individual and corporate taxpayers, particularly within the real estate and rental property sectors.

His flagship real estate development arm, Meera Investments Limited, holds a long-standing reputation as the highest property taxpayer in the country, leading the URA's rental income tax categories for several consecutive years.

Key highlights of his real estate contributions includes being a Landlord of Government with Ruparelia Group owning over 300 properties across Kampala.

 The magnitude of his holdings has even sparked active parliamentary scrutiny and national debates, as his commercial properties host several line ministries and government agencies

In Taxpayer Recognition, Dr. Sudhir and his companies are consistently highlighted in the Uganda Revenue Authority Taxpayers Awards for their voluntary and on-time tax declarations.

He has reached an extent of defend his investment in public, stating that the Ruparelia Group remains among the largest taxpayers and foreign exchange earners in the sector, citing its massive job creation.

He further stated that he is among the highest taxpayers in Uganda’s real estate sector, contributing more than Shs12 billion in taxes and an additional Shs9 – 10billion in VAT personally.

Beyond these amounts, he noted that various businesses within the group also remit withholding taxes, employee-related obligations and other statutory deductions.

“As a citizen of the country, it is my obligation to pay taxes,” he said.

The billionaire entrepreneur attributed much of his business success to disciplined management structures, strong financial controls, effective oversight of finances in the organisational, genuine interest him and passion.

“When you enjoy doing something, then you’re doing it with passion,” he said.

On the corporate scale, beyond real estate, his company conglomerate spans from hospitality, education, and financial services, floriculture among others making a yearly turnover exceedingly high.
