Shaping the Future: IUEA Opens Admissions for the January 2027 Intake with a jump start on industry driven education
The International University of East Africa (IUEA) has officially opened admissions for its January 2027 intake, giving prospective students a jump-start on practical, industry-driven education and competence based skilling.
Announced by Vice Chancellor Prof. Emeka Akaezuwa, this upcoming January cohort holds special significance: it represents the final enrollment window before competence-based education and training (CBET) becomes mandatory across all Ugandan universities as directed by the Ministry of Education and Sports. Rather than waiting for the national shift, IUEA is already embedding hands-on, competence-based training into its core model.
Why the January 2027 Intake Stands Out:
The Competence-Based Transition according to IUEA is shifting the focus away from rote memorization and exams toward practical, job-market-ready skills.
“Our mission is to provide an excellent education that includes practical experience and skills,” said Prof Emeka Akaezuwa, Vice Chancellor of IUEA. “The new model will change how students are assessed, moving away from testing what learners can remember toward what they can actually do. If you are an accountant, you have to be a very good accountant. If a company employs you, you have to be able to add value from day one because you can think and solve problems.”
To ensure students are immediately job-ready, IUEA has integrated Artificial Intelligence (AI) into every field of study—including law, business, mass communication, engineering, and science. New students will receive step-by-step coaching on leveraging AI within their respective disciplines.
“AI is not just for computer science,” Prof Akaezuwa added. “I am sure by the time you finish, you will be ready to go out there and create businesses, not stand in line to look for a job.”
The Deputy Vice Chancellor Prof. Lakshimi Bhabuu said that the Cutting-Edge Programs at the university allows access to specialized fields including Science and Technology, Engineering (such as Mechatronics, Robotics, and Mining Engineering), Business & Management, Law & Humanities, and Climate-Smart Agriculture among others.
“Students can choose between on-campus life at the Kansanga Ggaba Road campus in Kampala or flexible online learning tailored for working professionals. Hands-on training facilities—including smart agriculture farms, robotics labs, and active tech incubation—designed to bridge the gap between classroom theory and real-world employment” she said
Essential Details for Applicants:
The January intake application window is open, with scholarship and application processing actively managed through the IUEA Admissions Portal.
