NWSC feeder projects boosting water supply stabilization in Kampala Metropolitan Areas.

After the Katosi water treatment plant handed over to NWSC last year with capacity to supply 160 million liters of water daily to the Kampala Metropolitan Area, the impact in supply improvements lifted lives in Kampala Metropolitan service areas.

However, there are some areas that still need feeder projects to connect to the grid, new infrastrcture, repair, restoration among other intervetions. Some areas are still experiencing intermittent supply due to topographic and infrastructure capacity challenges.

The following projects both undergoing and completed are up to closer the gap of water supply as part of ongoing NWSC target to boost water supply in the Kampala Metropolitan Service Area:

Ongoing projects:

NWSC project nearing completion is the Wakiso-Kavumba, Ssala and the surrounding areas which is at a stage of finalizing an intervention to boost water supply.

NWSC is also improving water supply to Kiteezi-Kabaga-Obama, Jomayi, Lubatu, Kabaganda, Kayanga, Nakyesanja, Namalere and the surrounding areas, aimed at providing better services in the area as in picture above.

The leading water supply and sanitation company in Uganda is testing the newly laid Naguru-Komamboga-Kiteezi  transmission main  to resolve the low pressure and no water concerns in parts of Komamboga, Kiteezi- Bamba, Luteete Masooli and the surrounding areas.

Restoration and completion of water supplies is going on at Kanyanya to resolve the technical proble in the water supplier.

NWSC is partnering with Community Empowerment for Village Development (CEFOVID) to provide piped water to communities in Kosovo and Lubya – Rubaga Division.

CEFOVID is an NGO that aims at ensuring vulnerable and disadvantaged, women, children and youth in the communities acquire the capacity and ability to sustain good healthy and happy living conditions, provide for their own needs, and increase their own opportunities so as to promote sustainable development.

Completed projects:

NWSC has taken a number undertakings in other areas including the following areas of Kyanja, gayaza, Nansana, Mattuga, Mukono Zimwe Hill, Bandwe and Nalumunye, among others:

These projects included the laying of the 14km DN350/250 from Sonde to Nakwero; the upgrading of pump and pumping main from DN100 to DN150 (for the Mukono Zimwe Hill Area); and  the completion of clipping works of DN250/150/100 across Entebbe expressway bridges to ensure reliable supply to the two boosters (for the Bandwe and Nalumunye Area).

The corporation according to NWSC  hopes to undertake more projects to help improve water supply in the Kampala Metropolitan Area.
