By Darlingtom Mabonga
The Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Nobert Mao, has said that Namilyango College remains his best school because it made him what he is today, and pledged to support its development agenda.
Mao made the remarks on Saturday during the 5th annual Namilyango College Old Boys Association [NACOBA] awards dinner held at the Grand Imperial hotel, which brought together all tribes of friends of the college.
The theme for 2025 was ‘ICT-Competence based education in Namilyango College’, which focused more on promoting ICT-based education for the boys, given the new technological advancements sweeping the globe today.
The purpose of the NACOBA Awards which attracted over 300 old boys currently serving humanity in various offices of responsibility was to recognize old students and staff, past and present, dead or alive, who have made significant achievements in society, and whose accomplishments, affiliations and careers have honoured the Namilyango College core values of among others, honesty and integrity, innovation, respect for human dignity, Christ-centered holistic formation, and excellence.

Mao, an old boy himself, paid special tribute to the late former college headmaster Peregrine Kibuuka for having nurtured him, especially his articulate technique of teaching of the English subject, which heavily inspired him to read hard and love his college.
He reminded the government to fully implement the resolutions embedded in the Nuwa Amanya Mushega education policy review commission, which could have a positive impact on the future journey of the country’s education system.
The former Chief Justice of Uganda, Justice Bart Katureebe, who made a keynote address, applauded the college headmaster Constantine Ssajabbi Mpuuga with his team for offering an inclusive and all-round education package to the students.
He observed that armed with that package of education and encouraging them to carry out community voluntary work, they would be useful members of the future society.
The college headmaster Constantine Ssajabbi Mpuuga commended the NACOBA leadership for the support rendered to the college noting that they are taking the teaching of ICT seriously.

Mpuuga noted that with their student population of 2051, they have only 105 computers, largely used by the S.1 students, where 30 are reserved for research with an additional 80 tablets purchased recently to supplement that effort of promoting the ICT agenda.
He revealed that the new block under construction would house ICT labs, a library for both books and computers among others as well as having recently installed ICT projectors for learning and white boards donated by the 1996 cohort
The NACOBA President, Alex Asiimwe, highlighted the big strides they have made by investing in high-end income-generating projects which have currently positively impacted their development agenda.
