Mubende town residents to benefit from NWSC projects
National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) has taken practical steps to combat the water supply challenges in Mubende town through a number of interventions that will boost access to safe and clean water in the area.
The main impact of the project is a sufficient and reliable supply for the population of Mubende with clean drinking water at affordable prices. In addition, upgrading of water supply will be complemented by improvements in basic sanitation which will reduce the risk of water-borne diseases and contribute significantly to an improved health situation of the target group.
Mubende Town has in the recent past been in the news over unreliable water supply services, mostly attributed to the drying up of its main water source at Katoma due to climate change and over-voltage causing power shutdowns, especially at night.
Will the said interventions the production according to NWSC translate into increased daily production of about 610m³
Sources from NWSC have “revealed that the NWSC Management has had to quickly embark on a number of interventions pictured above, to avert the looming water crisis, thus; Installation, testing, and commissioning of Ntungamo borehole II, with a yield of 10m³/h, installation, testing and commissioning of Katabalanga BH VI, with a yield of 5m³/h, installation, testing and commissioning of Katabalanga BH VII with a yield of 6m3/hr, laying of a parallel 6″ pipeline from Kachwamango to Katoma to evacuate an additional 14m³/h into the distribution network and, installation of generators at the two waterworks; Katabalanga and Katoma to maintain uninterrupted production during overvoltage hours” the statement partly reads
Interventions will be implemented before December 2022 include; the completion of the charging of new Kangulumira reservoir in the CBD of Mubende, completion and operationalizing of Musozi borehole (BH) which is already drilled, with a yield of 12m³/h, completion of Nsengwe Borehole which is already drilled, with a yield of 6m³/h; its reservoir is already constructed and, completion of second Bore Hole at Ntungamo/Nkandwa, already drilled, with a yield of 25m³/h.
The statement adds that the Area team is embarking on a monitoring campaign to ensure that all the dry zones are made wet again the team joins hands to see the area return to stable and equitable distribution of water services to all customers.
