On 31st July 2025, Mama Tendo Foundation, together with partners and supporters of participated in the Mama Tendo Parenting Symposium 2025 held at Kololo Independence Grounds.

During the same event, new kids’ books were launched by the Chief Guest, Mama Janet Museveni, Minister for Education and Sports, flanked by Minister of state for Gender, Labour and Social Development Hon. Peace Mutuzo and the Maama Tendo CEO.

The theme of the symposium was: “Parental Involvement, Sex Education, and Children’s Well-being”

Hon. Janet K. Museveni, while officiating at the symposium, called upon other partners to support the foundation in translating the books into the local languages to boost accessibility for the many children.

She raised a critical concern about the rising incidence of mental health challenges among young people while emphasizing that “many parents lack the awareness and tools to identify and respond to these issues effectively”, calling for a collective effort to prioritize mental well-being in every home and community.

"Let me also take this opportunity to appeal to the stakeholders here today to support the Mama Tendo Foundation to translate these books into local languages so that they become accessible to many young children across the country. Once again, I thank you, Catherine, for this great initiative, and your husband for the support" she said

The First Lady reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring that educational content reflects Uganda’s core values. 

"Protecting the moral integrity of our children is not a choice, it’s a responsibility. Our children’s future must be shaped with deliberate care” she said.

Mama Janet addressed a pressing concern of our time; the exposure of children to uncensored content in today’s digital world. She reiterated the need for greater parental presence and intentional guidance in nurturing the next generation.

“What we see in the media, especially Western culture media, isn’t right, it’s influencing our children in the wrong way” she said

Mama Tendo Foundation CEO Catherine Ruhweza applauded Mama Janet Museveni during the Parenting Symposium for her support of the foundation which she said was established in 2000.

She challenged the silence that too often surrounds parenting, reminding us that while it may be one of the least discussed roles, it is one of the most vital.

The CEO revealed that through the efforts of Mama Tendo Foundation, “over 100,000 families have been reached and encouraged to embrace the timeless values of love, care, and presence”.

She also shared her vision: “to establish the Mama Tendo Parenting and Research Centre—a bold, national hub dedicated to equipping caregivers and shaping the next generation of grounded, resilient citizens.”

She reminded the participants at Kololo grounds to take action on the importance of parenting, commending the First Lady for sparking a timely national conversation.

“Parenting isn’t just a private affair—it’s a national responsibility. When we invest in how we raise our children, we invest in the future of our nation.”
