Maize flour, Rice drives higher price changes in the October 2022 Consumer Price Index measures
According to the Consumer Price Index measures for October 2022 released by the Uganda Bureau Of Statistics (UBOS), the inflation annual inflation for Uganda for the 12 months ending in October 2022 increased compared to the one registered for the years ending September 2022.
This according to the Principal Statistician at UBOS Edgar Niyimpa, was mainly driven by an increase in prices of goods and services other than food and energy-specific commodities under core inflation followed by food crops and related items inflation.
“The Annual headline Inflation for October 2022 increases to 10.7%, from 10.0% of September 2022. The Annual core inflation rose to 8.9% in October, and in September was 8.1%. Maize flour inflation rose to 91.5%, and September was 60.2%. Rice inflation rose to 43.3% in October, and September was 32.2%.” he said
During the release o the CPI for October 2022 at UBOS headquarters on 31st October 2022, The Principal Statistician added that “Matooke (bunch) rose to 75.4% from 59.8% of September while Petrol inflation lowered to 45.6% in October 2022 from 55.3% of September. Diesel Inflation lowered to 52.1% in October 2022, September 2022 it was 63.0%”

He however said that the monthly energy, utilities as well as services inflation service inflation decreased by 0.2% in October 2022 from the 0.9% rise registered in September driven by the decrease in monthly petrol inflation that decreased by 5.7% in October 2022.
Arua registered the highest inflation attributed to an increase in annual foods and non-alcoholic beverages followed by Mbale, and Kampala high income.
Core inflation is the change in prices of goods and services, except for those from the food and energy sectors
