Lwengo District Chairman Kitatta Ibrahim reveals new plans as New Buganda ULGA President.
Uganda Local Governments Association (ULGA) held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) at Hotel Africana in Kampala, where leaders from across Uganda convened to address local governance challenges.
The Governor of Lwengo District Kitatta Ibrahim Almalik was elected as Uganda Local Governments Association (ULGA) President for the Buganda Region at ULGA's Special Annual General Meeting held at Hotel Africana, Kampala.
Kitatta Ibrahim after being elected Buganda Region ULGA President revealed his new plans under the new leadership role including uniting central region leader, and other salient issues affecting local government in Buganda region.
The ULGA AGM provided a platform for local government officials to discuss critical governance issues, allowing each region to outline solutions tailored to their needs.
Various leaders however question the rationale for the district commission merger to local government ministry.
They said that instead of merging the district commission, the government should increase funding

The newly elected Buganda President Ibrahim, who replaced Muhangi, the District Chairperson for Lyantonde in elections pledged to unite local government leaders across party lines to address pertinent issues in the region.
Mr Ibrahim Kitatta said is a need for strengthened coordination the President and local government leaders in a bid to tackle local issues better.
He outlined issues such as water, LC remunerations, dire state of roads, outdated machinery, and insufficient resources, which have led to increased pressure from communities demanding better services, the education sector in the region which he said need improvement.
” Our duty is to highlight these issues and put them at the center of the policy makers such as MPs, NRM CEC, Ministers and we assume these issues haven’t been put before the President of Uganda for his kind attention and this is where we shall focus our voices to make sure that the issues that haven’t been heard, are heard at the center of power”, he said
Meanwhile, the new President of ULGA Andrew Moses Awany from Kole who beat Bunyangabu district Chairperson James Ategeka by 50 votes pledged to fight Gender Based Violence -GBV
On his part, local government minister, Raphael Magyezi, urged local government leaders to strengthen their unity by especially paying their subscriptions to the association and by putting in place the right leadership. “Local government leaders work pivots around three themes: fighting corruption, funding for local authorities, and being available for service delivery,” he said
