Local governments CAOs recieve motorcycles, printers from Ministry of Gender to support UWEP implementation
The Uganda Women Entrepreneurship Programme (UWEP) is an initiative of the Government of Uganda that is aimed at improving access to financial services for women led projects across the country.
In a bid to support the implementtation of the Uganda Women Entrepreneurship Programme (UWEP), The Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development has handed over motorcycles and printers to Chief Administrative Officers from eight new District Local Governments.
This brings the total number of districts and municipalities 176 (one hundred seventy six) the that have received motorcycles, desk top computers and printers to aid in the implementation of UWEP programme.
During the handover of the motorcycles and printers to the Chief Administrative Officers on Friday 27thth Auust 2021, The Minister of State for Disability Affairs at the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development Hon. Hellen Asamo the total of beneficiaries of the UWEP programme by close of last fiancila year stood at 15,294 women projects amountinting to UGX 96.1 Billion while the number of direct beneficiaris was 180,914 women.
"By the close of last Financial Year, the Programme had provided interest free credit amounting to Shs96.1 billion to 15,294 women projects across the country. The total number of direct beneficiaries stood at 180,914 women and the number keeps growing per quarter" she said
She cautionsed the CAOs to ensure that the motorcycles pictured above are used for the right work especially monitoring purposes.
"The CAOS, you are responsible to seethat the motorcycles are used for the right work. You have been compaining of monitoring" she said
The beneficialries include: kasanda, Packwach, Kazo, rwampara, Kitagwenda among others
UWEP is the flagship government-funded programme extending interest-free credit to women for entrepreneurship.
