Former Vipers midfielder Paul Mucureezi converted three penalties against his former bosses to help Kitara reach their first ever semi-final in the Stanbic Uganda Cup.

In a thrilling quarter final played at Masindi Municipal stadium, the match ended 2-2 after extra time with referee Ali Sabila awarding three penalties – two for the hosts and one for the visitors.

Following a goalless first half, Yunus Sentamu broke the deadlock in the 51st minute.

Kitara drew level in the 67th minute when Sabila adjudged Rogers Torach to have impeded Jude Ssemugabi although replays showed otherwise.

The game ended in a 1-1 stalemate at ninety minutes and went into extra time where two more goals arrived.

First, Bright Anukani scored in the second minute of additional time into the first half of extra time when Allan Okello was hacked in the area.

But there was more drama with eight minutes to the final whistle as Kitara earned another penalty that Mucureezi confidently dispatched.

It was left for the kicks from the penalty spot to decide the winner and it did with Karim Watambala the only person to miss as Kitara were perfect.

Anukani, Torach, Mbowa and Mukundane scored for Vipers with Mucureezi, Kabon, Dudu, Omedi and Paddy Muhumuzza netting for the hosts.

Kitara now joins NEC, Pajule Lions and BUL in the draw for the last four.

The two sides will renew rivalry in the Premier League on Friday April 19 next week in a fixture that could decide the destiny of the league trophy this season.
