“I Graduated With A 1st Class Degree From Makerere 6 Years Ago But Till Today, I Haven’t Gotten A Job” Martin Shares

For six long years, my life felt like a continuous struggle with disappointment. My name is Martin, and I come from Nakawa in Kampala. I graduated from Makerere University with a First Class Degree in Business Administration. The day I received my results, my family was overjoyed.

Everyone believed I would succeed quickly because people with First Class degrees are usually considered top candidates. I also had high expectations. I imagined myself getting a well-paying job, supporting my family, and building a good life. But what followed after my graduation was completely different from what I had dreamed of.

I started applying for job after job. I sent out hundreds of applications to banks, NGOs, government institutions, and private companies. Some called me for interviews, and many interviewers praised me for my academic record. But the results were always the same: “You were not selected.” Months turned into years, and nothing seemed to work for me.

I watched my former classmates get jobs, buy cars, start families, and build their lives, while I remained stuck in the same position with no progress at all.
