Gov’t launches specifications for Roads and Bridge works to enhance quality & safety.
The Ministry of World and Transport and stakeholders have lunches the general specifications for roads and bridge works 2026, aimed at enhancing the quality and safety of Uganda’s roads infrastructure.
The general specifications according to the ministry of works and transport are part of the legal and technical framework for use in planning, design, construction, maintenance and operations of efficient public infrastructure.
They were officially launched at Speke Resort Munyonyo, setting new benchmarks for quality, standardization and efficiency in Uganda’s infrastructure sector.
The Minister of Works and Transport Gen. Edward Katumba Wamala said that new specification follows the ministry’s review of the old specification that needed to be updated.
He said that the new specification have incorporated the latest advancements in technology, and best practices observed that he said facilitate various sectors.
“The importance of well designed, constructed and maintained public roads cannot be overstated. They are vital to national development and facilitate trade, tourism, security, agriculture, mining, mobility and connectivity across communities” he said.
The panel discussion
He encouraged other stakeholders to to familiarize themselves with the new provisions and apply them in their work.
The Engineer In Chief Ministry of Works and Transport Eng. Stephen Kiwanuka Kitonsa called upon all the stakeholders to periodically provide feedback on the specification for continuous improvement if need beto refine standards and address emerging challenges effectively.
“Together through open communication and shared commitment we can advance Uganda’s infrastructure development to meet both national and international standards” he said.
The specifications has 8 series each addressing specific aspects of roads and bridge works including drainage, site clearance, quality control, structures, bitumen layers, day works, among others which serve as the baseline RequFor all public and bridge project in Uganda.
